MIAMI RIVER

A run up the Miami River aboard Midnight Sun Charters boat ORO, gives you a close-up view of a variety of sites and history. Coursing through the city of Miami, the Miami River stretches nearly 5.5 miles from the Airport to Biscayne Bay, complete with 10 drawbridges. The river is of immense importance to the economy of Miami, as its sidings hosts commercial shipping activity to the Caribbean and Central and South America that generates $6+ billion in annual cargo volume.

You’ll see historic neighborhoods including Overtown, Grove Park, Allapattah, East Little Havana and the Spring Garden Historic District, which in the 1920’s was the most exclusive neighborhood in Miami. Watch carefully as wind past other architectural delights, including the Scottish Rite Temple, the William Wagner House – an anti-bellum frontier house which is the oldest known house in Miami-Dade County, and the historic Miami River Inn. Also note, the Miami River Greenway, soon to be a 10-mile pedestrian pathway lining both sides of the river. More greenery awaits at the nine parks along the river, including Jose Marti Park which offers an adjacent manatee cove, E.G. Sewell Park with its graceful palm trees, Fern Isle Park on the south fork of the river, and Fort Dallas in Lummus Park which was a former barracks and features a house built by Henry Flagler.

Locally, the river is best known for its amazing eating establishments, from the casual party atmosphere of Finnegan’s on the River, to the Wharf Miami, to the more diverse Casablanca Seafood Bar and Grill, Garcia’s Seafood Grille and Fish Market, and the high end spots like Kiki’s on the River and Sea Spice. Whatever you’re in the mood for, we have you covered!
